In this review, I want to introduce you to the smart doorbell. Which will not only inform you that someone has come to visit you, but also has a number of very interesting functions 2022. The call itself can record video to the cloud when calling or when motion is detected. You can communicate with both the caller’s voice and pre-recorded phrases. You can even change your voice in live communication, it will be useful if the child is at home and you do not want anyone to know about it. In addition, you can set auto-reply phrases and schedule. You can expose the faces of your relatives and friends, and the artificial intelligence system will immediately inform you that one of them has come. But is everything as smooth as advertising texts write to us? Tests will put everything in its place!

Packaging and equipment
Standard minimalist packaging for many Xiaomi products, product picture and brand logo.
On the side of the “icon” the main features of this device are voice communication, motion detection, AI face recognition and 1080 picture quality.
On the back there are characteristics and other information in Chinese.
Packed securely enough, the long journey with our mail will endure, it will not break.
So that we can immediately use the device at home, the manufacturer supplies us with 6 AA batteries (finger type). Autonomous work of the device with them will be about 6 months.
KnowName alkaline batteries, frankly, I was expecting the familiar, multi-colored batteries from Xiaomi.
The instruction will help us a little, since all the information is in Chinese.
Separately, there is a small Phillips screwdriver from Xiaomi. A trifle, but nice =)
The bell consists of two basic elements, a unit with a camera and a button (bell) and a receiver with a speaker (speaker). The speaker that we install in the apartment is made in the form of a small cube.
At the top (or at the bottom), depending on which side it is inserted into the outlet, there is a volume control button and a call pairing button. Decrease the volume in a cyclical order: 100% — 75% — 50% -25%.
The device is released for the Chinese market, so it is expected that the plug is “Chinese”. Consumption is only 0.03A.
It is practically invisible in the outlet, except that it protrudes slightly due to the adapter.
The bell is pasted over with a shipping film, and they did it for good reason, the glossy body “collects” fingerprints very well.
Pretty big thing.
At the bottom there is a call button and a speaker under the mesh.
At the top there is a 2MP FullHD camera with IR illumination, the camera angle is 139 degrees. Under it is a special pyroelectric infrared motion sensor with a viewing angle of 100 degrees and a detection range of up to 5 meters. A hole with a microphone is hidden between them.
There is a small bolt on the right side, and it was for it that the supplied screwdriver was needed.
The rest of the edges are completely smooth.
There are 2 options for attaching our bell, either on self-tapping screws, or on an already glued double-sided tape.
Move the lower part a little and halve the body of the device.
The bolt is just needed so that it is not possible to quickly remove the call to intruders.
The counterpart, of course, is flimsy, but in a metal, vandal-proof design, the price would be higher.
But smart guys from Xiaomi have thought of another “anti-vandal” thing, namely a small “micrik” which turns on the siren on the call and sends a notification with video recording to the phone. To the right is the device reset button.
The main space is occupied by a compartment for 6 batteries. Moreover, as far as I understood empirically, 3 pieces are enough for work, and 2 go for an additional reserve.
Install the batteries, close the lid and tighten the fixing screw.
The width of the speaker is 60 millimeters, the thickness is 40.
The bell is 63 millimeters wide, 139 millimeters high, and 26.3 millimeters thick.
Software, configuration and capabilities
Like most Xiaomi smart home devices, the call is controlled using the official MiHome app. press + in the menu and add Xiaomi Video Doorbell 2. Pre-press the reset button on the call for 3 seconds
After that, you need to scan the generated code with the call camera and the device will be added to your list of smart devices.
We call our device and choose its location.
Now it’s time to pair the ringer with the room speaker. To do this, hold the button on the speaker for three seconds until the characteristic “beep” and press the call button.
The main window of the plug-in will display a preview of the video from the peephole camera, motion notifications and other alarms. Above you can select the desired date and what to display. In the lower part there are two buttons — real-time video (activated after pressing the call button. The second button is the face manager, where we can upload the faces of relatives and friends and the AI system will determine who came to you.
You can either take a photo of yourself or another person, or add a photo from the phone gallery.
There are a lot of settings, from volume mode and melody to automation and other notifications.
In the speaker settings, you can select the sound of the ringtone, set its volume, and also choose the time when you are not disturbed. This completes the speaker settings, go to the ringer settings.
The ringtone and its volume on the call can be adjusted separately.
Call camera IR illumination mode.
When DND mode is enabled — do not disturb, or when you are not at home, you can set an automatic answer that will sound after pressing the call button. You can choose from the existing Chinese ones, or you can “utter” your message.
You can immediately ask the caller to leave their video message.
To extend the battery life, you can set the duration and schedule for the motion sensor. And also, change the duration of the recorded video.
There is the ability to turn on and off various notifications. which will come to your smartphones.
The call lacks the ability to install a memory card, so it writes all the records to the Chinese cloud. And this is where the main problems begin, since the cloud is either very slow for “ours” or a large Chinese firewall banally blocks recording. During the tests, only a couple of times I was able to record video to the cloud, but I could not view it …
The same is true when watching online video, after pressing the call button. At 99.99%, the stream is loading, and at 90% the connection is broken. Only once did I get to see someone calling me there.
But at the same time, notifications to the phone about pressing a button come quickly and regularly.
Like most Xiaomi smart home devices, there is the possibility of various automation and scripts.
In general, at the moment, if you do not live in China, I cannot recommend this call for purchase. The functionality and potential of the call is quite extensive, but due to Chinese data storage servers, unfortunately, ours is not operational. It is easier and cheaper to make your own smart call, with the ability to open a gate based on a camera, a door opening sensor, and which will be able to withstand subzero temperatures.
That’s all, happy shopping!
