Appearance and packaging

The earbuds come in beautiful packaging. The printing and design style immediately suggests that we have a high-class product.

Instead of a protective film, there is a tear-off strip on the package. This is the first time I’ve seen such a system for opening packaging on Chinese goods.

Inside there is another box in which the case with headphones is located. All accessories are in a separate compartment under the case.

  • Instructions

The case is black, matte, on the upper part there is the Amazfit logo, and on the back there is a Type-C connector for charging the case. On the front there is a white LED. I was surprised by the weight of the case ~ 70 grams, very weighty compared to other inexpensive TWS headphones. The case is made with high quality, there is no backlash in the lid.

Inside the case are headphones, under the top cover, magnetized, there are bows, they are attached to the headphones with strong magnets.

There is a red mesh pattern on the top of the earbuds. As you can see, the earbuds are very good at collecting fingerprints.

Each earphone weighs 6–7 grams. On the right earphone there is a heart rate sensor and a sensor for determining the location of the earphone in the ear, on the left only the sensor for determining the location of the earphone in the ear. The headphones are not small and not very light, but due to their shape and the correct selection of ear pads, they sit well and do not fall out even without using the temples.

The temples are attached to the earbuds with very strong magnets. I confess that I was rather skeptical about such an implementation of the attachment, but after the first training session I changed my mind. For all the time, the bows have not been removed and they do their job perfectly. Without arms when running, the headphones, due to their weight, fall out, but with the arms they sit perfectly.

Key features

To use all the functions of the headphones, you need to connect them to the Amazfit (Zep)
software Download the Amazfit (Zep)
app : Google Play Store
App Store

After the first connection to the app, the latest firmware will be installed. The update takes a long time to install ~ 7–10 minutes.

Upon completion of the update, a short instruction will be shown that tells you how to wear the headphones correctly.

The application displays information about the remaining charge of each of the headphones and the charge of the case. I have not seen such detailed information about charging on wireless headphones.

The following parameters can be configured in the application:

  • Right and left ear gestures
  • Equalizer. The manufacturer has prepared presets for the equalizer, but if you don’t select anything, you can adjust the equalizer for yourself.
  • Heart rate and beat mode settings (bass boost when training is activated) — bass becomes very soft and enveloping.

Sports opportunities

The main feature of the headphones is the built-in heart rate sensor. Due to the fact that the sensor is located on the earpiece and is securely fixed, its readings will be more accurate than that of the sensor in the watch (in cases of loose attachment to the hand).

To track your heart rate and your workout, you need to start a workout on your phone and the heart rate will be automatically read from the headphones, GPS data will be recorded from your phone. It is impossible to start a workout from the headphones, they will only work in conjunction with the phone.
During training, with an interval of 1 km, in headphones, a female voice in English reports your heart rate and the time for which you have covered / run / walked this distance.

Thru Mode

I would like to highlight this mode separately. When activated, along with the music (if it is playing), you hear the environment, but you hear it with a very slight delay. In this mode, the microphone transmits to the headphones what is happening around. This mode is very convenient if you need to hear ambient sounds, for example, an announcement in transport, ask something from a passer-by.

Before training, the headphones were charged to 100%. In 1 hour and 39 minutes, the right earpiece was discharged to 82% and the left one to 85. The heart rate sensor drains the battery by about 1% in 30 minutes of training. Based on these data, the headphones, from a single charge, could work for about 11 hours, but my calculations are slightly different, the operating time on a single charge without using the heart rate is about 8 hours.

I used a OnePlus 7 Pro phone as the sound source. I liked the sound of the headphone, without using the equalizer they play equally well in electronic and live music, at maximum volume there is no distortion in the sound. If we compare the headphones with the OnePlus Bullets Wireless 2, then at standard settings, the sound will be slightly cleaner, but two of the three who tested the sound in Amazfit PowerBuds seemed a little better.

I did not expect much from the headphones. I was ready that there will be problems with the heart rate sensor, or the sound quality will be at the level of ordinary TWS headphones for $ 20, but I confess, Amazfit PowerBuds surprised me. At the start of sales, the price tag was too high for them, but already at the last sale, the headphones could be bought for $ 75 (using all coupons), and in my opinion, this is a very good price for a device of this kind. On the downside, I would say that the manufacturer did not make it possible to connect the heart rate monitor from the headphones as an external device to the watch.

That’s all, happy shopping!
