Review AVATTO Tuya 16A-3680W Smart Wi-Fi Socket

Review Smart Wi-Fi socket SP12-P Avatto with energy monitoring Tuya Smart 2022. Our today’s review will be devoted to one gadget that can not only turn on the electrical appliances connected to it, but also perform energy monitoring. All this is called the smart socket of the TUYA SMART or SMART Life smart home ecosystem, and it works over the Wi-Fi protocol, which means it can be installed in any home, there is no need to buy a Zigbee gateway, you only need a Wi-Fi router.

Packaging and equipment

A smart socket is supplied in such a multi-colored cardboard box. On one of the faces, important points in the outlet are schematically marked, such as the location of the on / off button, where to connect the wires, they did not even forget to indicate the indication LED. On the other side there is a description of the technical characteristics. The seller has two versions of the socket with a maximum current of 10 or 16 amperes. They do not differ much in price, so I recommend taking a more powerful outlet.

Inside we have the socket itself, instructions for use and a screw for attaching the plastic cover. The instructions are quite clear and simple, everything is in English, there is also a QR code for downloading the Smart Life application to your smartphone. The screw is like a screw – only long.

The outlet itself is practically no different from its usual, not smart counterparts. Only the front part protrudes slightly. And there are usually no buttons on normal sockets. To the credit of the manufacturer, the outlet was provided with protection from children, only a quick-witted child can stick a carnation. They also did not forget about grounding.

The metal mounting plate is also made conscientiously, not foil like some. The thickness is 1.1 millimeters – surprisingly, the Chinese manufacturer did not stint.

For installation, you will need a standard round socket box for us. Immediately we see the name of the model of the SP12 socket, and the maximum connected power should be no higher than 3680 watts. There is also a contact group for connecting a 220 volt power supply, where the manufacturer also noted which wire to connect.

The dimensions of the socket are 80 * 80 millimeters. It protrudes 24.2 millimeters above the wall. Diameter – 50 millimeters. Depth 31 mm.

When connected, the LED blinks blue, which means that our socket is ready to be connected to the Smart Life app. If you turn on the outlet, the LED will turn red, and when the network is off, but connected to the Wi-Fi network, it will turn blue. If there is no Wi-Fi connection, the indicator will not light up in the off state. You can turn off or turn on electrical appliances connected to the outlet not only using the mobile application, but also using the button. One press to turn on, again to turn off.

Insides

We separate the two parts, for this we slightly pry the plastic ears on our lid.

Next, unscrew the board with the power button and unscrew the four bolts around the board.

I would add some solder, but leave it as it is.

All elements are installed so that it is not possible to see the marking without unsoldering. But most likely there is a simple bundle of a 16A relay and a smart part with a WiFi module

ON

To connect the socket to your smartphone, you need to download and install the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app. After that, put the outlet into pairing mode, for this we hold the on / off button on the outlet until the indicator blinks blue. After that, click on the blue plus sign at the top of the application and select any outlet with a Wi-Fi connection. We select our Wi-Fi network and enter the password for it. Following the instructions, we connect our new device to the smart home ecosystem.

You can rename the outlet at your discretion, I will have it Boiler. Unlike overhead sockets / adapters, there is no way to control switching on and off from the main menu of the program.

Going inside the plugin immediately, we see the current status of the device, disabled or enabled. Moreover, with a manual, so to speak, physical change of status, by pressing the socket button, the status in the application also changes.

As with most of these devices, you can create various timers, this is, in fact, their main purpose. Let’s say I have a boiler and it is profitable for me to heat it at the night rate. To do this, I put the power outlet with the boiler on at 23-01 and turn it off at 6-50. I repeat this from Monday to Friday, and on weekends let him work all the time, you never know who will take a bath or shower when.

You can also put a tick on the PUSH notification to the smartphone about turning on or off the outlet. This is how the outlet works to save electricity, and the boiler works only at the night rate.

You can also create a countdown timer, after which the socket will change its status, if it was turned on, it will turn off, and vice versa. In this case, the main screen will display information about the remaining time until the status change.

But the most delicious thing, so to speak, in terms of monitoring a smart home, is, of course, viewing the voltage and load not only in real time, but also with saving statistics by day and month. It is very convenient for understanding and controlling your expenses. We connect the test light, as we can see, the power of the llama supplies a watt, a current of 9 milliamperes, a voltage in the network of 220 Volts, in total 0 Kilowatts have been spent since turning on the outlet

Since this socket is new, there are no graphs yet. I will show similar ones from my similar outlet, which is connected to an electric car. Here we see that today I have consumed 7.2 Kilowatts. In September, 274 kilowatts and consumption by day an average of 10-12 kilowatts. By the way, it goes to refuel the car after 40 kilometers of daily mileage, I think everyone will calculate the cost for himself. Statistics are stored not only for the year, as you can see, I have statistics for the past years.

Going into the settings, you can view all information about the device, enable or disable the notification if the device is not connected to the Internet. Create a group with similar devices for simultaneous control or automation scenarios.

In addition, we can share and share the device with other family members. Although I frankly don’t know why to do this, if you can simply put the same Smart Life application on their smartphones and go to everyone under the same account. There were no updates at the time of writing the review, firmware version 1,1,7.

Automation

As for automation, there are a lot of scenarios, imagination would be enough. Basically, I only needed one time automation, and I did it inside the socket plugin. But you can automate the change in readings from any sensor, or even at sunrise or wind strength in your city. Let’s say we do this, if the humidity is below 40%, we turn on the humidifier, which is installed in this outlet.

In the automation itself, our socket offers such an option, turning it on, turning it on, and then turning it back on. Setting a countdown timer to change the status of the device. And also a rather strange automation in which you can simply add up to 50,000 watts to the electrical monitoring section. It’s a strange parameter, if someone understands why it is – write in the comments. I frankly find it difficult to even think of where it can be applied.

We got this kind of automation, the humidity is below 40% – the outlet turned on. You can put that when above 60 – the outlet will turn off. By the way, throw off your automation options in the comments, I think it will be useful to many.

Mounting

Attention, before installation, be sure to de-energize the line from which the work is performed !!! Anyone who has ever held a screwdriver in their hands will cope with the installation, and who did not – there is just a reason. Dismantle the old socket – unscrew the screws from the socket. We unscrew the wires from the terminals. Now we act, on the contrary, we fasten the wires to the terminals of the new outlet. We screw the socket itself to the socket with self-tapping screws. After that, we snap in the front part and screw the screw that came with the kit into its center.

conclusions

In general, for the money, it is quite a suitable solution for automation. No matter how anyone says, I don’t really want to connect more than 3 kilowatts through an adapter outlet. Although the electric car was just connected through such an outlet and at the time of charging, a current of 16 amperes flows through it. And nothing happened to her for a year. But this was done only for the reason that there is no way to put exactly the outlet, and not the adapter. For the home, I still recommend making such sockets. On the whole, I did not have any questions about the quality of the outlet, solder can be added if desired, but they did not regret the metal, which is rare. The downside here, most likely for me, is the Wi-Fi connection technology, since I’m trying to build my smart home more precisely on the ZigBee protocol. But, on the other hand, this is a plus, because there is no need to purchase an additional gateway. I bought it, configured it 1 time, turned it on and forgot about it. I can recommend it for purchase.
