The juicer is an integral part of a healthy diet, because thanks to it you can get freshly squeezed juices, purees and smoothies. In today’s review, I will introduce you to the Harper HJE-501 screw juicer, and we will also prepare apple, orange, tomato juices and find out what percentage of the finished juice will be in relation to unprepared its and berries.
The Harper HJE-501 juicer comes in an extended cardboard box. On the front side you can see the appearance of the device, while on the back you can see the available colors and specifications.
Due to the elongated shape of the box, the juicer is delivered assembled, with the exception of shipping films on all elements. The complete list of components is as follows:
Juicer Harper HJE-501 is available in two colors: black and white. I chose black and regretted it, as it leaves prints on itself due to the matte body. So keep this in mind when choosing a color. The device itself is made of durable plastic and is a tube with a single control in its central part. The switch has 3 positions: off, forward and reverse. The latter is necessary to extract the pulp, which can clog the auger.
In the upper part, you can see a drive shaft in the form of a hexagon, an outlet for juice, an outlet for cake and an emphasis with a limit switch. If assembled incorrectly, the juicer will not start, keep this in mind.
For a stable position on the surface of the table,bber feet are provided, similar to those used in aquarium pumps. Connection to the network is carried out using a standard wire 0.9 m long and an EU plug. When the juicer isnning, power consumption is about 130W.
Let’s move on to the bowl with a separator in which the cake is separated from the juice. The juice spout is equipped with a special valve that prevents the remaining juice from flowing onto the table.
A spiral screw press is installed inside the separator, which shes and presses the products, passing them through a strainer. The filter itself is part of the body of the filler neck and is easily washed under the pressure of water.
The assembly of the separator, auger and filling mouth is elementary, which has a positive effect on further disassembly and washing of all elements. For convenient work with the neck, a plastic pusher is provided, with which we push products for future juice. This must be done meditatively, otherwise the food will be rammed and the auger will not catch on it.
The juicer comes with a pair of glasses: one for 600 ml juice, the other for 450 ml cake. The latter has an oval cutout in its body for close contact with the body of the juicer.
A fully ready-to-use juicer looks like this: we substitute a large glass under the juice spout, we put a smaller glass under the pulp spout. Next, we move on to tests with various products.
Juicer at work
As an introduction to the juicer, we will prepare freshly squeezed juice from apples, oranges and tomatoes, and also find out the difference in the weight of products before and after.
And the first in line will be a kilogram of oranges, which turn into 718 grams after peeling them. How much juice can be squeezed out of the resulting orange slices, we will find out a little later.
The process of obtaining juice is not trivial, because it is necessary not only to place orange slices, but also to do it slowly so as not to clog the loading neck and auger. I keep the juice drain valve closed and open it only after filling the inner tank in order to get aesthetic pleasure. But no one forbids keeping it open and slowly filling the glass with freshly squeezed juice.
In the finale, I was left with one slice of orange and a glass of juice filled to the very edge. We do not take this slice into account and quickly eat it. The proportions between juice and squeezed pulp can be seen in the photo below:
Since I forgot to weigh the container before the start of measurements, we subtract the weight of an empty glass from a full glass of juice and get 461 grams of a pure product, or 61.21% of the original weight. We drink it in one gulp and proceed to the preparation of tomato juice.
To get tomato juice, we take three fresh tomatoes with a total weight of 421 grams and cut them into small slices, after removing the stems.
Due to the fact that the scture of tomatoes has a dense peel, which strives to clog the loading neck and the auger itself, it is necessary to remain calm and take your time.
The amount of squeezed pulp is minimal (plus part of the pulp remained on the auger itself), the final weight is 334 grams. Let me remind you, the weight before spinning was 421g. In total, the percentage of juice from the initial mass of the product is 79.33%, a fairly high efficiency.
In conclusion, let’s try to prepare freshly squeezed apple juice. To do this, take three apples (Golden Delicious variety) weighing 570 grams. Looking ahead, the final weight of freshly squeezed juice was 307 grams, which indicates an efficiency of 53.86%.
The cooking process is similar to that described in the previous test. To do this, remove the seed and the remains of the stem, and also cut the apple into small slices. Apples, like tomatoes, have a dense peel that stops the pressing process. Therefore, we periodically use the forward stroke and the reverse. After preparing freshly squeezed juice, you can observe an abundance of foam with pulp similar to mashed potatoes. This juice can be consumed both in this form and diluted with water.
Juicer Harper HJE-501 is a typical representative of the auger class of devices that allows you to get fresh juices not only from its and vegetables, but also from pomegranates and tomatoes. And this is the peculiarity of the auger, which allows you to grind the most problematic its, up to squeezing juice from small berries and greens. Also, the pluses include high spin efficiency and minimal noise level. In contrast to the pluses, a narrow neck appears, implying only finely chopped its or vegetables, as well as more attention to cleaning all sctural elements.
