Review ILIFE W450 Testing Washing Robot Vacuum Cleaner Appeared On The Market 2022. It replaced the W400 and the main difference between the two robots is the navigation camera, which was installed in the updated model. Thanks to this, the robot floor washer is better oriented in large areas and builds a map of the room in real time. The price at the time of preparing the review is from 250 to 300 dollars and, in principle, this is not expensive. Next, I will test this washing robot vacuum cleaner in detail in different conditions and on different surfaces, after which I will express my own opinion whether it is worth the money. So let’s go!
First of all, let’s take a look at the package bundle of the iLIFE W450. It is packed in the following branded box:
The device is completed with a charging base in the form of a platform with terminals.
It is important to note here that charging is not automatic. It must be manually removed from the platform and put back on it. This is not very convenient, but considering that the washing robot vacuum cleaner after cleaning still needs to be serviced immediately, draining the dirty water and the rest of clean water, manual charging is not too much of a drawback. In addition, the robot returns to the place where it started, and this may be just the place near the base. The power adapter is connected to the base.
In addition, the package contains:
- Replacement roller, which is the main assembly of the cleaning module.
- Robot cleaning tools.
- Operating instructions and warranty card (translation into English is provided).
- Control panel and batteries for it.
This is the whole set of delivery, and it is complete, this robot does not need anything else from spare consumables for the first time, and then you will understand why.
Now let’s look at how the robot itself works. It is quite bulky, the body height is almost 12 cm.
Above is a camera for navigation and 2 control buttons: start / pause and select the operating mode.
View from above
There is a manufacturer’s sticker on the body that shows how to use the robot.
There is a button next to the camera to detach the module with clean and dirty water tanks. There is also a handle for carrying the robot and convenient detachment of the module.
Tank module disconnected
Let’s consider the main block. There is a QR code on it for downloading a mobile application, with which you can control the iLIFE W450. The central roller can be removed very easily, on the one hand it can be conveniently disassembled to clean it from coiled hair and other debris.
Below we see 3 fall protection sensors installed on the soft touch mechanical bumper.
Please note that this model does not have side brushes, the debris is collected only by the central roller, which, in turn, does not cover the entire width of the case. Most likely, there will be problems with washing the floor along the baseboard, I will definitely check this later.
The second part of the robot is a module with a tank for clean and dirty water. They are separated, so the robot from one tank supplies clean water to the floor, and collects dirty water in the other. Thus, it does not leave dirty stains on the floor, I will also check that.
The body also contains stickers on the correct operation of the washer. Pure water is poured through an opening with a sealed valve. There is a mark on the tank for the minimum water level. There is also a special filter that needs to be rinsed and cleaned periodically. Dirty water is sucked in through a channel, which is additionally equipped with a scraper that removes water residues from the floor.
But through this hole you need to drain dirty water from the tank:
A special sensor is installed inside, which will inform that the tank is full.
The robot vacuum cleaner is assembled in the reverse order. You need to get into the guides from the bottom, move the module close to the main unit and press until it clicks. There are no complaints about the build quality and plastic, the robot is well assembled.
Consider the main characteristics of the iLIFE W450, declared by the manufacturer:
- Li-Ion rechargeable battery with a capacity of 2500 mAh.
- Working time up to 80 min.
- Charging time up to 300 min.
- The volume of the tank for clean water is 850 ml.
- The volume of the dirty water tank is 900 ml.
- Passage of obstacles up to 3 mm high.
- Dimensions 292 * 118 mm.
- Weight 3.3 kg.
I will immediately add those characteristics that were determined during the test. The noise level according to my measurements was in the range of 64-68 dB.
Working time and in truth up to 80 minutes. Cleaning area on one charge is about 70-80 sq.m. I think if the layout is not complicated, while turning on the maximum speed of movement and setting the minimum rotation speed of the roller, the battery can be enough for an area of up to 100 square meters.
These are the main characteristics worth mentioning.
Let’s move on to an overview of iLIFE W450 features. All the main features are included in the branded mobile application. It can be downloaded using the QR code on the robot.
The application interface is in English, this should be taken into account. The main working panel displays the map of the last cleaning, the robot does not save the map in memory, it is important to understand this and this is of course a drawback of the model. In the settings, you can view the cleaning history, smoothly adjust the water supply level, a slider from 0 to 100%. Also smoothly adjust the movement speed of the robot and the rotation speed of the roller. There is a do not disturb mode and a search for a robot by sound.
Let’s go back to the main work panel. Here you can set cleaning zones, but it’s really not very clear how to use it correctly. The robot does not save the map in memory in order, for example, to select the necessary rooms for cleaning or zones in the rooms. You can simply highlight a dark area with a rectangle, where only where the robot itself is visually shown in relation to the rectangle. As for me, this is not very convenient, in fact the same spot cleaning.
There are two more additional adjustments: apparently this is the choice of the number of cleaning repetitions and the number of repetitions of the so-called floor drying. Most likely, in this mode, the iLIFE W450 robot floor washer simply sucks in the remaining water from the floor without spraying clean water. The instructions do not say anything about this mode. And the last thing that is available in the application is manual control of the robot. There is also a button for returning the robot to the place where it started cleaning and turning on the spot cleaning mode.
These are all the features of the application. Now let’s see what the remote control gives.
Above there are buttons for manual control of the robot. In the center of the joystick there is a button for starting and pausing the automatic cleaning mode. There is a cleaning mode for the selected zone, a spot mode, a button for turning off voice alerts, adjusting the water supply level and roller rotation speed, as well as the number of repetitions of cleaning cycles. In principle, the remote has all the necessary functions to control the iLIFE W450.
You can watch all the tests and a detailed review of the iLIFE W450 in our video clip:
First of all, let’s check the navigation of this robot in the room with obstacles. He went through the entire available area like a snake, there were no uncleared areas left. He did not go around every chair leg or around a box. Moves in parallel lines only. After cleaning, I returned to the place where I started.
Navigating within a room
Now let’s complicate the task and see how the iLIFE W450 handles the entire area of the house. In my case, these are 5 rooms with a total useful cleaning area of over 34 sq.m.
Cleaning the whole house
The iLIFE W450 was able to remove all available space, build an accurate map of the room, and return to where it started. He divided the rooms into several zones and returned to those zones that he did not clean up. In this regard, there are no complaints. For 59 minutes of operation, the battery is not discharged, so it will surely last for 80 minutes of battery life. In my case, the layout is complicated and in 60 minutes the robot was able to remove almost 36 sq. M.
I would like to highlight a few observations:
- The cleaning algorithm along the walls is not well thought out. Instead of adapting and driving along the wall in exactly one run, the robot makes perpendicular runs and bumps off the boundaries with a bumper. As a result, the passage time of the room perimeter increases.
- iLIFE W450 cleans only with a snake, it does not make the final drive through the perimeter.
- When moving from one part of the room to another, if the robot has not removed it, the water supply is turned off. That is, this washing robot vacuum cleaner understands where it has already washed and does not waste water on the same places.
The only complaint about navigation, and for me weighty, is that if the robot goes into a mistake, for example, the roller is blocked by rubbish, after you clean it and pick it up from the floor, the card will be discarded and the robot will start cleaning in a new way. This is a minus.
Failure in work
In general, the navigation is good and the robot is suitable for apartments and houses with an area of up to 100 sq. M. Well, if the area is larger, you will have to run the robot twice, dividing the cleaning zones.
It is more important to check how well the iLIFE W450 wicks dirt off the floor. I tested it several times under different conditions. The first and most difficult test is rubbing off dried stains. The stand was stained with coffee and sauce stains, and then left for a day so that the stains dry well.
Rubbing off difficult stains
During the first pass, the robot easily wiped away the coffee stains, the second time he managed to wipe off some of the sauce, the third time he removed a significant part of the remaining stains.
Still, a few stains remained, but after the test I decided to try to wipe them off by hand. And this happened only with diligent pressure on the napkin and thorough wiping. So I think that the quality of wiping off stains is good, as for a washing robot vacuum cleaner. Perhaps adding cleaning agent to the water will help the robot do the job better. But as far as I know, the manufacturer does not recommend using anything other than clean water, so as not to damage the nozzles.
Now I will smear watercolors and lipstick on the stand and also let them dry out a little.
Rubbing lipstick and paint
On the third try, iLIFE W450 was able to remove almost all the paint and lipstick overlay. The lower one turned out to be too much for him, but it is clear that he wiped off most of it. These tests will help you further compare the wiping quality of the iLIFE W450 with those of its closest competitors.
Now I will stain the stand with dirt, it also dried up a little before turning on the robot.
Rubbing away dirt
The iLIFE W450 robot floor washer does a good job with dirt. One nuance, for which I spoke at the very beginning and which was confirmed – the robot does not blow a small area along the baseboards, it is about 3-4 cm.This is due to the fact that the roller does not cover the entire width of the body, but only covers the area between the wheels of the robot. This is exactly the width of the wheels and is not washed.
I think it would be possible to attach the Velcro to the double-sided tape and attach a small piece of microfiber cloth to it to eliminate this blind spot. Well, ideally, for the engineers of the Eylife plant to finalize the robot and take into account this design flaw in the following models.
Well, in the last test, I decided to check if this floor cleaning robot can wash and vacuum at the same time. In addition to the dirt, small debris was scattered on the floor.
Garbage collection and floor cleaning
And you see that the robot has removed both debris and traces of dirt at the same time. There was only uncleaned dirt along the baseboard, which he was physically unable to wipe off.
Passage of dark surfaces
Finally, let’s check if the iLIFE W450 is afraid of dark floors. Since he is not able to drive on the rugs, instead of a black rug I will simulate the situation by gluing strips of black electrical tape.
Passage of dark surfaces
The robot is not afraid of black drawings on the floor, this is a plus.
The iLIFE W450 has been thoroughly tested and I can say that as a result I liked this washing robot vacuum cleaner. I decided to leave it for local cleaning in the kitchen and bathroom, where the floor is represented by tiles, and I will also turn it on once a week to wipe the laminate throughout the house.
Probably, it is not very objective to evaluate it according to the scoring algorithm for robotic vacuum cleaners , because this robot is designed for a little different conditions, but nevertheless we will try, in order to then compare at least these indicators with analogues. As a result, the iLIFE W450 scored 87 out of 100 points and ranked even higher than some wet and dry robots in the same price segment.
Now for my opinion on the iLIFE W450. I liked the fact that the robot washes the floor really well. At 100% water supply, it directly floods the surface, which leaves small puddles. On repeated passes, you can set the water supply level to a minimum and the robot will collect all the water from the floor. On the laminate flooring in the house, I set the water supply level to 6%, and in this case the wetting was not too abundant, but enough to wipe off the stains and wash the surface.
The second obvious plus is the ability to wipe off difficult dirt. The iLIFE W450 cleaning module is much more efficient than conventional wet and dry robots . Therefore, if washing the floor is a priority, it is better to consider this option.
It has been proven that the iLIFE W450 can not only clean the floor, but also pick up small debris. Also, the roller winds wool and hair well. This is a plus.
The considered robot can clean over large areas, so it outperforms floor polishers without navigation or with gyroscopic navigation.
I was also pleased with the control from the remote control and through the application, which will allow you to choose the appropriate option for different audiences.
Well, the last important plus is the price. For 300 dollars or less, the iLIFE W450 is deservedly interesting to buy. It is worth the money and does a good job.
Now I’ll tell you what I didn’t like:
- The map is not stored in memory so that cleaning zones can be selected later on the map. This function may not be so actively used, but there are analogs with more advanced navigation that support this functionality.
- The iLIFE W450 does not run along the skirting board. This is an important note, as for a washing robot vacuum cleaner.
- No virtual walls or restricted areas where the robot will not enter. Again, a moot point. On the carpets, he will not go in anyway, and the touch to the objects is soft. But nevertheless, there is a chance that he will move the cat bowls or touch a fragile object on the floor. A virtual wall would be nice.
- No side brushes to sweep debris along baseboards and corners. Considering that the robot can vacuum and mop the floor, side brushes would be helpful.
- High cabinet height, which is why the passability under the furniture is limited. He will not be able to clean the floor under kitchen cabinets or other low furniture.
Of all of the above, what is really important is the fact that the robot does not do a very good job of cleaning the floor along the baseboards. All the rest are remarks that may be less important for many.
But again, for your money – this is a very good option, especially if you need a washing robot vacuum cleaner, and not just a floor polisher. I think that the iLIFE W450 will be a particularly useful assistant for cleaning the kitchen, bathroom, as well as high-quality floor cleaning if the house is not carpeted. In addition, I would recommend using this robot in office premises and sales areas. Especially if the floor is tiled and you need to keep it clean at all times.
That’s all for me. I hope you enjoyed the review. If you have any questions, write in the comments. Happy shopping everyone!
